I can 't really understand all the criticism that AR has been getting of late. Yes the second half of the season has been a nightmare but getting things right at a football club is unlike any other business and it seems he isn't allowed to make any mistakes.
The appointment of TC, or perhaps the end of the reign of TC, seems to have come in for a lot of criticism yet until TC gets another job somewhere we will never really know how good he is. Certainly considering the results after he left it can be argued that the appointment of TC was a great choice and TC overachieved. A different view however would be that the appointment of an inexperienced coach backfired and the the team was in complete disarray and freefall when TC was sacked.
The appointment of Orta again seem to draw criticism yet the majority of foreign clubs have this sort of setup and with AR not really having a huge footballing background it makes sense to leave a lot of the running to VO. Time will tell with VO as to how successful he has been with the initial first team signings being underwhelming but the long term signings looking promising. However looking good at U23 and U18 level is no guarantee that any of the players will make it.
AR has received a lot of criticism for not investing heavily in the first team squad yet with the cost of incoming signings balanced by the fees for Wood and Taylor. Yet in this age of Financial Fair Play his hands are somewhat tied - Wolves got round it with a lot of loan signings and it may be that as they got away with it that we follow suit, AR has certainly got contacts within the game. In my opinion he was right to not go completely overboard this season financially by putting all the eggs in one basket and it seems AR has a long term vision which our fans simply don't want to see. There appears to be a lot going on in terms of Elland Road and surrounding infrastructure in addition to the overhauling of the academy. all good news as far as I am concerned.
It just baffles me at times why some fans seem intent on hounding people out of Elland Road and it does nothing to make things better. If AR feels he cannot be bothered with the club because of this then it is hardly likely he will gamble more money to improve the club and that after all is what buying a club is - it is a gamble. Look at the huge decline in the worth of a club that gets relegated, how much are Sunderland worth now compared to 2 years ago? You can gamble, like many clubs at our level have, at achieving promotion, and spend a fortune yet still see a Huddersfield get promoted or a Millwall do much better than you.
