QPR have appointed Steve McLaren as their new manager. It baffles me why chairman continually appoint people who have had a succession of failure. Okay McLaren did well in Holland but his club management career in England is fairly mediocre. His only real success came with his continued tactic of bringing subbing on more forwards when they were losing matches in the UEFA Cup. They managed to get a couple of wins but were then brutally found out in the final when they tried it one time too many and found a team prepared for it and they simply got outclassed. It was a tactic that Alex Ferguson had used int he European Cup final v Bayern when MU were 1-0 down and time running out and they ended the match with 4 strikers on the pitch and scored 2 late goals to win and as a tactic it can obviously work but usually just as an element of surprise - repeatedly do it and teams can plan for it and counter it.
McLaren had a good team at Derby but did nothing and similarly has done nothing of note anywhere recently yet his name is always in the frame for managerial vacancies, including our own in the past, and chairman keep appointing him. On the flipside though if a club appoints someone with a limited background such as Leeds did with Christiansen then some fans are straight on his back and at the first sign of trouble they deem him to be out of his depth (yet the same fans get behind Paul Heckingbottom who's history at Barnsley suggesting he was out of his depth and sinking like a stone and who's time at Leeds would seem to have confirmed it).
It just doesn't make sense to me.
