A lot of discussion about Felix this season and for me I still think he could be a good keeper for us. Some of the reflex saves he made were top drawer and also his reading of the game so he could come off his line and be the sweeper keeper was first class. His main weakness seemed to be with crosses or balls lumped into the box but with a Bartley/Jansson combination I think this would have been less noticeable. BPF is being hailed as a much better keeper but if the Norwich winner had been scored v Felix then it would have gone down as a keeper error. I can think of at least 3 goals that BPF has conceded that should have been saved.
Of course it is hard to judge keepers. Saves to shots is not particularly reliable as a keeper that reads the game may come off his line quicker and clear/catch the ball before the striker gets to it. That doesn't count as a save yet a slower keeper may well end up having to try to make a save in the same situation as the striker gets to the ball first. Likewise a keeper can come out to narrow the angle and if the striker shoots wide then it isn't classed as a save.
It was clear that TC requested a sweeper keeper type. Whether FW was his choice or simply the only one that fit the budget we will likely never know. Likewise we will never know if Green's contract extension, triggered because of the amount of matches he played last season, put him above the wage ceiling and meant the board had to get rid of him if they wanted to impose the salary cap. Green signed for us when he was realistically at a very low point in his career having been 2nd or 3rd choice at a poor QPR side and remembered by most for making errors. Indeed for us he was shaky at the start before going on to have an excellent second half of the season. However I do not recall seeing him having to deal with too many crosses, perhaps due to our defence being stronger last season and us not allowing many crosses.
